KURUNG KUMEY is one of the youngest districts, inaugurated on 16th April 2001. The district is named after two major rivers of the locality- the Kurung River and the Kumey River.
The land of Nyishi, Puroiks, Mishmis and Meyors is full of flora and fauna. The lush green virgin forest carpeted in every direction. This part of state is totally unexplored and pure magic for nature lovers.
Mythological the Sulung claims to descend from heaven. Traditionally they claim to have migrated with Khowas at the present Tenga Valley. The huge area of 6340 Sq.km has a population of only 42282 people spread across the many small villages over the sloppy green hills. |
