| Itafort was built by Ahoms in 1360 A.D. it is a historical fort of an irregular shape built mainly with bricks. The fort covers an area of over 1 Sq. Km and the three sections of the Eastern; Western and Southern are barricaded by three gates in each entrance. The average height of the wall is 5 meters and width is 1.5 meters. The state capitals name is also derived from this fort. It is said more than 80 lakh pieces of bricks were used to construct this ancient fortress.
Gekar Sinyi Lake/Ganga Lake, located 6 kilometer away from Itanagar this is a beautiful green forest lake, it is indeed a good picnic spot with its serene surroundings
Itanagar it’s the capital of the state. It has been identified with Mayapur, the capital of the 11th century as Jitri dynasty. Itanagar has a beautiful yellow roofed shrine, the new Buddhist temple in well maintained grounds behind a stupa bearing the portrait of a monk. At one side is a tree planted by his holiness the Dalai Lama. The ground of the temple endows panoramic view of Itanagar town.
Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum The museum is enriched by a diminutive diorama glorifying the various features of tribal life and culture of different tribes.
Zoological Park situated about 6 km from Itanagar, houses the famous Bengal felines, aggressive crocks, vile vultures, mischievous monkeys, beautiful birds, wonderful peacocks etc. Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 140.30 sq. km and nestle some of the rare wild life species along with varieties of birds and orchids. |
