The Pangsau Pass Winter Festival is not only a platform to unravel the clandestine world of the Tangsas but also an occasion to rejoice ethnic life and simplicity. It is the gateway to the shrouded paradise of Arunachal Pradesh.

The historic Stillwell road that passes through the greenest vegetation was concluded on October 1944 but by then WW-II was over. Many decades later, it is still known for the sacrifices the Allied forces made during its construction. The roadwork, which started in April 1942 with a length of 1079 miles, connected many important places between Ledo in Assam and Kunming in China. PPWF is a gesture of gratitude for those, who gave their today for our better tomorrow. The WW-II cemetery in Jairampur on the historic Stillwell Road divulges the truth, as it is a significant parts of history- it reminds us, the sacrifices of the soldiers as well as the enormous loss of human resources.

The historical Stillwell Road that traverses through the emerald Patkai region is known for the colorful tribe called Tangsas and their conventional way of life in the backdrop of modernity. Nampong-Jairampur-Pangsau Pass came into limelight due to its abundant flora and faunas reserves and the Pangsau Pass Winter Festival has played a significant role to confer it a platform to divulge its natural and cultural grandeur to the outer world. PPWF is not only about ethnicity or culture but it’s also a medium to pay our tribute to those war heroes who lies here in the cemetery- far away from their native home.

It was during the 18th century that the Tangsas (the local tribe) residing on the Indian side of the border migrated from erstwhile Burma. Therefore, they share the same historical and cultural background with their Myanmarese counterpart, and the Pangsau Pass Winter Festival has been able to bond those tribes together.

In the backdrop of the ‘Look East Policy’ and the expectation of re-opening of border trade, the then Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Setong Sena, ideated the concept of the Pangsau Pass Winter Festival to enhance the cross-culture relations and boost the economy of the region.

It was in 2007 when the PPWF commenced in a befitting manner with support from the indigenous sources and since then there was no looking back, because, each year it began to grow bigger and better. Finally, 2 years later in 2009, the Arunachal Pradesh Tourism department took PPWF under it wings.
